On April 24, Airbus organized its first signature Airbus Day at IOE Pulchowk campus, paving the way for direct hiring of Nepali students, engineers, and other related candidates by Airbus. The program was hosted by the departments of Pulchowk campus and managed entirely by a group of its graduating students.

A team of seven delegates from Airbus, led by Mr. Suraj Chhetri, Airbus HR Director of India and South-East Asia, visited IOE Pulchowk campus to present about the different departments of Airbus, and about the company’s hiring practices, its culture, and its values. On IOE’s side, the hosts included the Dean of IOE- Prof. Shashidhar Ram Joshi, Assistant Dean of Planning- Prof. Sushil Bahadur Bajracharya, and the Chief of IOE Pulchowk Campus- Dr Indra Prasad Acharya.

Airbus and IOE Pulchowk’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering had been planning potential activities since 2023, to enable Nepali academic institutions to establish direct exchanges with Airbus. As such, the event also enabled discussions among different entities in Nepal with Airbus, including an HR interview session with the MBM/MBS graduates of Shankar Dev Campus.

With this, Nepali institutions have officially begun exchanges with one of the largest aerospace corporations in the world. This is also a potentially disruptive event for Nepali aviation sector, as the aspirations of Nepali graduates has now extended far beyond the opportunities that has traditionally been considered to exist at home. A silver lining in all of this may be that both our institutions and industries will aspire to catch-up with the aspirations of our students and graduates.
