Pokhara City is set to be declared the tourism capital city of the country. The announcement is going to be made on the 4th of Chaitra by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda).
According to the information provided by Secretary Kuman Singh Gurung of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment of Gandaki Province Government and Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality, the announcement program will be organized.
According to him, a rally with various cultural glimpses will be taken out from the Basundhara Udyan before the announcement.
The organizers have informed that the announcement program will be held at Barahi Ghat on the banks of Fewa Lake. ‘After the rally with various cultural glimpses of different castes and communities of the province, the program will be held officially,’ he said.
To make the announcement ceremony grand, a main ceremony committee has been formed under the coordination of Pokhara Metropolitan Chief Dhanraj Acharya.
This committee includes all secretaries of the provincial government, mayors of various municipalities of Pokhara such as Rupa, Madi, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna, Syangja’s Fedi Khola, Tanahun’s Shuklagandaki, Parbat’s Kushma, and Modi Rural Municipalities, as well as representatives of tourism associations.
It has been informed that ambassadors from China and India as well as chief diplomatic envoys of various countries stationed in Nepal have been invited to understand the importance of the capital declaration on an international level.
The provincial government had formed a study committee to declare its capital city Pokhara as the tourism capital city. The committee had submitted a report to the government last Falgun.
Pokhara Metropolitan Chief Dhanraj Acharya has stated that preparations are underway to celebrate the announcement program as a festival and to make it grand. He stated that due to Pokhara being the center of tourism, after extensive discussions and studies, the announcement of the capital was initiated formally.
‘There is no doubt that Pokhara is the center of tourism, destination, and alternative of tourism. If all goes well, we will also announce the capital city of tourism,’ said Mayor Acharya.
He informed that after the announcement of the tourism capital, necessary infrastructure and standards will be identified, and improvements will be made in service quality.
With the initiation of declaring Pokhara as the tourism capital, tourism entrepreneurs here have been enthusiastic. Entrepreneurs had been demanding the declaration of the capital city for a long time.
