Kathmandu, Aug 12 — Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has officially announced a ban on the issuance of visitors’ passes, effective immediately. The move comes as part of heightened security measures and crowd management efforts at Nepal’s only international airport.

Established in 1955 as Gauchar Airport and renamed in 1964 in honor of King Tribhuvan, TIA serves as the country’s main international gateway, handling millions of passengers annually. Located in Kathmandu, it connects Nepal to destinations across Asia, the Middle East, and beyond.

According to airport authorities, the decision aims to reduce congestion in terminal areas and ensure smoother operations for passengers and staff. The restriction means friends and family members will no longer be allowed to enter certain parts of the terminal with a visitor’s permit.

Officials stated that the measure aligns with international aviation security protocols and will remain in effect until further notice. Passengers are advised to plan accordingly and complete farewells or greetings outside the designated terminal access points.
