Tribhuvan International Airport - Aviation in Nepal
Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu will undergo a temporary closure lasting half an hour during the visit of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar. According to airport sources, a ‘Notice to Airmen’ (NOTAM) has been issued for Tuesday afternoon from 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm.
During the issuance of NOTAM for VVIP flights, typically other airline operations are suspended. However, emergency landings may still be accommodated, with priority given to VVIP flights under normal circumstances.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani is expected to arrive in a private aircraft, with the parking bay reserved exclusively for his aircraft. It remains undisclosed whether other aircraft from his allies will accompany him.
A similar NOTAM will be issued for his departure on Wednesday from 01:45 PM to 02:15 PM. Such airport closures during state visits are customary to ensure the respect and safety of distinguished guests.
