The National Flag Carrier Nepal Airlines Corporation has initiated maintenance of its Airbus A320 ‘9N-AKX’ that has been grounded for almost 3 months for now. Spokesperson Ramesh Poudel provided information that the engine installation work has begun on the aircraft.

The aircraft, which had been grounded since December 15 last year due to problems with the left engine, was sent for repair to Israel on January 26. However, the repair was stalled because Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), responsible for the maintenance, did not make the engine that was previously provided.

Spokesperson Poudel informed that since the engine provided five months ago has been repaired, the installation work on the aircraft has begun. “We have repaired the engine provided earlier. Now, the same engine installation work is underway on the aircraft,” he said. “Preparations are being made to bring the aircraft by March. We haven’t yet fixed the exact date of Nepal’s arrival, so we haven’t made flight schedules.”

Out of the four international flights, when one aircraft remains grounded for more than three months, it does not only affect the flight schedule of the corporation, but also results in a loss of more than 1 billion rupees in revenue. The corporation has not been able to generate profits apart from the Narrow body aircraft.
