Juphal Airport in Dolpa has resumed operations 53 days later after the completion of runway maintenance. Early sections of the threshold of the landing area of the Runway was damaged which was too risky for STOL – Short Take Off Landings aircraft operation. There are no margin for errors in the STOL operating aircraft flying in the remote areas of Nepal.
This morning, along with the arrival of Tara Air’s flight from Nepalgunj, airport operations have commenced. Juphal Airport is the line of communication to the remote place of Dolpa from Nepalgunj and Surkhet. The resuming of flight will ease the daily life of people of Dolpa after a couple of months now.
Engineer Bir Prasad Shahi from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) provided information about the maintenance of the runway, which cost 60 million rupees. A 185-meter section of the runway has been repaired.
Following the deterioration of the runway, airlines expressed concerns about the risks associated with flying. With the landing of Tara Air’s flight from Nepalgunj this morning, Juphal Airport has resumed operations after 53 days.
