Tumlingtar airport, one of the airports in the Eastern region of the country situated in Sankhuwasaba District of Nepal is facing short of flights since 2 days due to adverse weather in the airport’s vicinity. A thick fog persistent throughout day in the vicinity of the airport has made operations of flights impossible in the airport.
The airport is a VFR – Visual Flight Rules only airport with lack of instruments that can guide pilots to navigate towards the runway in less visibility. Due to this a visibility of 5000 meters is compulsory to take off and land in the airport unless approved for special VFR. The thick fog has restricted the visibility at around 500 meters due to which no flights have been possible to operate in the airport.
While most of the other airports in Hilly region have normal visibility and normal operation of aircraft, Tumlingtar is facing the problem of weather. Due to the cancellation of flights around more than 200 people have been affected in 2 days. Buddha Air operates daily flight by its ATR 42 and ATR 72 aircraft in Tumlingtar airport.
