Flight calibration has affected domestic and international flights, causing delays of up to two hours at Tribhuvan International Airport. Flight calibration conducted for inspection of equipment installed at the airport has impacted flights both domestic and international on Friday yesterday
The airport office stated that most flight schedules had been affected by flight calibration until 1:30 p.m yesterday. Subash Jha, spokesperson for the airport, mentioned that most flight departures were delayed by up to two hours.
“Flight calibration had been conducted under the issued NOTAM. No flights had been canceled in this regard. However, delays were being experienced,” said spokesperson Jha. The flights to and from the airport had to be operated under the Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) by pilots eventhough the airport was VFR (Visual Flight Rules).
The calibration has been conducted to rectify any error if found in the navigational aids provided by Tribhuvan International Airport. Timely calibration is most essential for the conduction of safe flights as aircrafts operating in the airport heavily rely on the flight instruments during approach landings and take off in a challenging terrain of Kathmandu.
