On November of 2022, Senior Capt. Vijay Lama, the senior pilot of flag carrier Nepal Airlines, got in trouble for letting people into the cockpit during a video interview while flying. The aviation regulatory, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) brought him under the punishment due to this act of him.
Pilots need permission to take photos or videos, but Pilot Lama broke this rule. He got investigated, and his name was removed from the list of pilots until the investigation is done resulting a temporary suspension of his work.
A popular aviation vlogger, Sam Chui, interviewed Pilot Vijay Lama from the cockpit during a Dubai-Kathmandu flight. This was reported to the authorities by the Nepal Airlines Corporation Security Department.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) dug into the situation, and Pilot Lama’s name remained off the flight list during the investigation.
Allowing unauthorized people into the cockpit is dangerous for flights. Pilot Lama was accused of breaking safety rules by doing a video interview in the cockpit while the plane was still in the air.
“He was investigated but was immediately back in service after a couple of days after CAAN concluded the investigation. When the CAAN Director General got the report, they decided to have him back in air with few warning notices.
