The ‘Cabin Crew’ (Flight Attendants) of Nepal Airlines Corporation has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court, alleging injustice in their service facilities by the Corporation. They have the demands of the exclusion of discriminatory laws imposed by the government in their service provisions.
“We have been subjected to exploitation in our service for more than two decades, which is a grave injustice,” says Prajita Karki, one of the flight attendants among the writ petitioners. She adds, “In opposition to this, going to the Supreme Court was our only option.”
The writ petition has been filed against the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, and Nepal Airlines Corporation.
The Government has set the retirement age for civil servants at 58 years, but flight attendants are entitled to retirement at the age of 40. Additionally, the provision in the law that allows removal of anyone with improper qualifications, even with everyone placed under a contract, contradicts the principle of equality. Karki points out that due to this inconsistency, they are compelled to fight a legal battle.
