The Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality has amended the rule prohibiting the transportation of mountaineering-related equipment via helicopter beyond the Syangboche area.

This decision was made by the local government in the first amendment to the Basic Camp Management Procedure 2080.

Previously, the Rural Municipality had made a rule to transport materials for mountaineering, including equipment for local economies, by utilizing local workers, yaks, and porters, but it had prohibited the transportation of goods via helicopter.

With this amendment, the Rural Municipality has now allowed the transportation of mountaineering-related equipment above the Syangboche area via helicopters or other means of transportation. However, the heliborne services would be allowed only in special circumstances, coordinating with the Coordination and Monitoring Committee and obtaining permission to transport materials.

Previously, the local government had also made rules regarding the return of human waste from the Himalayas, which will be implemented from this season onwards.

In amending the procedure, the Rural Municipality has removed the specified number of climbers previously mentioned according to necessity. Previously, it was mentioned that there should be a team of 15 climbers and up to 30 supporters for each climbing expedition.
